Charleston/ James Island County Park

After leaving Congaree National Park, we didn’t want to drive to far, and check out a place we have never been too. We decided to stay at The Campground at James Island County Park and we were not disappointed. The campground is inside the county park and has an endless array of things to do, and the campground also provides a shuttle to get to downtown Charleston. We knew immediately that this was going to be a very nice stay. I’ll keep this blog as short and sweet as possible. I’ll break down the two main places we went and what we liked most. Keep reading!

Aside from the awesome RV park we stayed in at James Island County Park, they have the coolest Holiday Festival of Lights. We wound up coming here two days in a row. They have a carousal, rock climbing, live music, train ride, food and of course lots of lights! The picture above is from the train ride, it was really cool and only $4.00. The rest of the pics we took are in the gallery below.

The picture above is of a bald eagle named Liberty, who we met while traveling through downtown Charleston. She has an injury to her wing and cannot be repaired. She may not be able to go back into the wild, but she lives a great life at the South Carolina Aquarium. The aquarium in Charleston was by far the highlight of the day. It really is a stunning aquarium, and has the deepest tank in North America. With a 335,000 gallon tank, you’re going to see everything. While walking through the aquarium, we were asked by a worker named Dennis if we would like a backstage tour for free. We obviously said yes and were blown away by what goes on behind the scenes. We observed the top of the largest tank in North America, how they feed the fish, saw the divers suiting up to clean the tank, and some dressing up as elves to surprise the kids staring at the tank in awe.

We spent the rest of the day enjoying King street, shopping and eating. King street has a little bit of everything and would go back in a heartbeat. All the photos are posted below. Some are going to be blurry, as some of the pictures were taken from moving vehicles or the animals were moving. I really love otters and Beau and Charlie, from the zoo, were on the move and ready to party!
